Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait (American/British, 1819-1905), Chicks gathered around a small log, signed and dated 1866, inscribed verso, oil on board, 24 x 29.5cm Notes Arthur Tait was born in Liverpool in 1819 and developed a love for animals during his childhood spent often away with relatives near Lancaster. Self taught and very talented he emigrated to America in 1850 having already established himself as a sporting and animal painter in England. He had good commercial instincts and became well known in America for his frontier paintings.
