A VERY LARGE ROCK CRYSTAL CARP, LATE QING DYNASTY China, 19th to early 20th century. The massive and heavy carving shows the fish with accentuated scales, distinct eyes and nose, standing on four fins, with its tail swung towards the upper left. The transparent stone with natural inclusions adding well to the overall lively impression. Provenance: From the collection of Georg Weifert (1850-1937). Thence by descent in the same family. Weifert was a Serbo-Austrian industrialist and the first governor of the Federal Bank of the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia. Condition: Old wear, small losses, natural fissures and imperfections to stone. The base with extensive wear and traces of use.
