A SMALL FLAMBE GLAZED WATER POT, PINGGUOZUN China, 18th century. The globular body, which tapers towards the unglazed foot and curves inward to the neck, is entirely covered with a magnificent flambe glaze, intentionally crackled throughout. Deeply recessed base. Provenance: From the collection of Georg Weifert (1850-1937). Thence by descent in the same family. Weifert was a Serbo- Austrian industrialist and the first governor of the Federal Bank of the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia. Condition: Excellent condition with old wear and fine, unctuous feel to the glaze, due to extensive handling. Minor firing flaws. One minimal nibbling to unglazed foot rim.
