A ROSE SANDSTONE FIGURE OF SALABHANJIKA, HOYSALA ERA South India, Hoysala Empire, 1050-1150. Standing beneath a fruit-laden mango tree with one arm thrust up, her face finely carved with full lips, straight nose and almond-shaped eyes beneath gracefully arched brows, her hair caught in a neat bun at the back and topped by a foliate crown. Provenance: Formerly in an English private collection. Christie's Paris, Art d'Asie, 21 December 2009, lot 421, sold for EUR €9,375 (erroneously dated to 12th/13th century). A French private collection, acquired from the above. Condition: Extensive wear and weathering, some losses and natural erosion, superb condition considering the age of this piece. Minor old repairs. Scientific Analysis Report: This piece has been analyzed by CIRAM (no. 0212-OA-42B) in Paris, a copy of the first page of the analysis report, dated 15 March 2012, accompanies this lot. Weight: 26.6 kg (incl. base) Dimensions: Height 60 cm (the statue) and 68 cm (incl. base) Note her voluptuous form enhanced by the bracelets, festooned girdle and multiple beaded necklaces swaying with her movement.
