AN EQUESTRIAN PORTRAIT Rajasthan, North Western India, late 19th century Opaque pigments and gold on paper, the vertical composition portraying a local ruler parading on his steed, preceded by a soonta berdar (mace bearer) and an attendant holding a long spear, a trusted attendant flanking the ruler together with two European-looking hunting dogs, the procession followed by a fan bearer and set within black and red borders, the verso with three lines of black ink Devanagari script, mounted on a light pink cardboard frame, 55cm x 42.5cm including the frame. Provenance: in a private Swiss collection since the late 1970s.
