NOTE: This sounding sculpture gong was made to be hung and struck for sound. Bertoia created this piece while working on a larger gong. Never one to waste materials, the artist cut out a central section of the larger gong and fashioned it into the present piece. (See Harry Bertoia Foundation Archival File 14024-41 for large gong which may have been the “mother” of this gong.) This lot is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the Harry Bertoia Foundation and signed by Celia Bertoia, Director and will be included in the upcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist's work.
