Exhibited 19th C. Russian Icon, "The Mystic Supper". Tempera, Oil, Silver/Wood. In the West, this is known as the Last Supper. Christ is seated at a table with his twelve disciples. Judas (seen in the lower left) is identified as the only one without a halo, which foreshadows his betrayal of Christ. The Mystic Supper is significant in Orthodoxy because it marked the institution of the Eucharist. To the left and right in the borders are a monk (whose inscribed name is damaged) and Saint Irina. Size: 12.25 x 10.5 in.
