Description

A Nuremberg bronze figure of a hunting groom, around 1570/1580 Cast in the round, chased, and with old patina.. Depicted is a standing bearded man facing left and blowing into a hunting horn. He is dressed in a doublet with puffed sleeves and trousers and carries a bag and a hunting knife hanging from a strap over his shoulder. The work would have originally formed part of a table fountain and can be attributed to a master employed in the foundry of Georg Labenwolf in Nuremberg. The spear replaced. Very minor wear. Loosely mounted on an associated mortar converted into a base. Height 24.5 cm (without spear and base).. Provenance Collection of Val. Nürnberg um 1570/1580 Hornblasender Jagdknecht Bronze, vollrund gegossen, ziseliert, alt patiniert. Der nach links gewandte stehende bärtige Mann bläst in ein Jagdhorn, gekleidet ist er in ein Wams mit Puffärmeln und Pluderhosen, an einem Schulterriemen trägt er eine Tasche und ein Waidbesteck. Die von einem Tischbrunnen stammende Figur kann einem Meister aus der Nürnberger Giesshütte des Georg Labenwolf zugeordnet werden. Speer ergänzt. Nur geringfügig berieben. Lose auf einen zum Sockel umfunktionierten nicht zugehörigen Mörser gesteckt. Höhe 24,5 cm (ohne Speer und Sockel). Provenienz Sammlung Val.
