A marble figure of Neptune by Girolamo Campagna Carved in the round and partially freestanding. This sculpture, designed to be viewed in the round, depicts the sea god Neptune riding on two hippocamps. Alessandro Delpriori attributes the finely carved figure to the important Italian sculptor Girolamo Campagna, dating it to around 1585 or slightly after. At this time the artist was involved in the decoration of the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua. The subject and composition of this work indicate an original placement within a larger composition, possibly as part of a fountain. Neptune's right hand and a front leg of the horse lock. Die qualitätvolle Arbeit ist von Alessandro Delpriori als Werk des bedeutenden italienischen Bildhauers Girolamo Campagna bestimmt worden, wobei als Entstehungszeit die Jahre um 1585 oder kurz danach angenommen werden, in denen der Künstler an der Ausstattung der Antoniusbasilika in Padua gearbeitet hat. Thema und Gestaltung legen es nah, dass die Skulpturengruppe in einem größeren Zusammenhang gestanden hat und wohl Bestandteil eines Brunnens gewesen ist.
