A Fatimid gold dinar from the reign of al-Mustansir (AD 1036-1094) Damascus, dated AH 435/ AD 1043-1044 with five lines of inscription in kufic surrounded by a band of inscription in kufic to one side, and four lines of inscription in kufic surrounded by a band of inscription in kufic to the other, very fine and very rare 23 mm. approx.; 4.29 g. Footnotes: See Stephen Album, Checklist of Islamic Coins, Santa Rosa, 2011, no. 719.1 and Norman D. Nicol A Corpus of Fatimid Coins, Trieste, 2006, no. 1723. Inscriptions: a form of the shahadah and a version of Qur'an, sura IX (al-tawbah), part of verse 33 with the added, 'Muhammad, the Messenger of God'.
