Carl Morgenstern (1811-1893), German landscape painter, came from an artist family, his
father Johann Friedrich Morgenstern had been living in Frankfurt as an architecture and landscape painter since the early 19th century. After working in the painting workshop, he went to Munich in 1832, where he became a student of Carl Rottmann. Carl Morgenstern (1811-1893), dt. Landschaftsmaler, stammte aus einer Künstlerfamilie,
sein Vater Johann Friedrich Morgenstern war seit dem frühen 19. Jh. in Frankfurt als Architektur- und Landschaftsmaler ansässig. Nach seiner Tätigkeit in der Malereiwerkstatt ging er 1832 nach München, wo er Schüler Carl Rottmanns wurde. 1834 folgte ein dreijähriger Italienaufenthalt, von dem er 1837 nach Frankfurt am Main zurückkehrte. "Abendstimmung am Golf von Salerno", wohl Motiv bei Amalfi. Blick auf eine Bucht mit Steilküste, am Ufer Fischer mit ihren Booten, im Mittel- bzw. Hintergrund ein Turm und eine Befestigung.
