At the same time, he trained to become a pianist. The love of music accompanies him throughout his life and thematically finds expression in his numerous metal sculptures. Titles such as “Contrappunto”, “Tema e variazioni” or “Canone” can be repeatedly found in his oeuvre. By means of filigree wire struts and shapes made of brass, silver or gold sheeting, the artist strives to transform elusive musical phenomena into abstract sculptures. The works often constitute a metal frame skeletal structure as a stabilising framework and are conceived by Melotti as limited editions. The “Dissonanze armoniose” (Harmonic dissonance) on offer here is of a purist elegance. Sharp-edged and rectangular frame structures contrast with three free, playful forms that are placed on two different levels, one above the other. Further down, the carefully bent three-part curve made from gold wire evokes associations with lines of music or a rising tone. On the upper level, the two small strips made from gold wire - one bent, the other looped - may symbolize individual tone sequences, however, they all elude a precise definition.
