Japan, Mid Edo period, 18th-19th century
Martial-looking, complete compound:
1. a helmet (kabuto) of the suji bashi type in black lacquered iron with 32 slats of koshozan shape with frontal ornament (maedate) lacquered in gold leaf, neck cover (shikoro) with 4 braided slats of blue silk in sugake,fukigaeshi mounted on black lacquered hinges with a clan symbol (kamon) in water makon with a crane motif and borders (fukurin) in shibuishi extending over the visor (mabizashi), Myochin workshop;
2. a black lacquered iron mask (menpo) in the grimacing style (ressei), Haruta workshop;
3. a two-part breastplate (ni-mai-do) of the nuinobe type in black lacquered iron and blue silk braids;
4. a set of arm protectors (kote) and thigh protectors (haidate) in natural iron with sukashi appliques, atelierMyochin or Kaga, a pair of leg protectors (suneate) and a pair of shoulder protectors (sode) in black lacquered iron and blue silk braids.
Good general condition, lacquer jumps mainly on the mask, braids and fabrics in good condition, sold with a carrying case (hitsu) and a presentation stand.
