Oil on wood representing Christ supported Virgin mother and by St. John Evangelist, group dominated by the Holy Spirit, 3rd quarter of the 16th century. Polychrome and gold carved picture frame. Dim .: 106x67cm. The work under consideration was part of the Barros Collection, Porto, sold at auction in 1947._x000D_ It belonged to Commander Arthur Cupertino de Miranda who in 1978 asked for na opinion of the work._x000D_ Through na ordinary friend, the poet Alberto Serpa, the historian Luis Reis-Santos_x000D_ (former director of the Machado de Castro Museum), writes a note about the work._x000D_ According to Luis Reis-Santos' This painting is a copy of a composition that has been attributed to Lambert Lombard (1506-1566 / 7),_x000D_ and that there is a beautiful version (circa 1550) in magnificent condition at the National Gallery in London._x000D_ It is assumed that the prototype is from Bellini or from any other painter of the Venetian School: but the original has not yet been found._x000D_ Several copies are known as the Barros Collection, which should date from the 3rd quarter of the 16th century.
