Cristoforo di Benedetto da Bologna, called the Master of Budrio (active Bologna, 1456-1497) The Madonna and Child with donor tempera on gold ground panel with integral frame 45.5 x 31.2cm (17 15/16 x 12 5/16in). Footnotes: Provenance Private Collection, New York Sale, Sotheby's, New York, 18 May 2006, lot 10 Prof. Miklos Boskovits and Prof. Matteo Mazzalupi have confirmed the attribution to the present owner. Painted around 1460, the features of the Madonna and Christ Child with their slightly puffy, downcast eyes draw comparison to those of St Roch in the side panel of the polyptich of Saint Prosperus in the Pinacoteca Nazionale, Bologna.
