Footnotes: Sekiya Shirō (1907 - 1994) Born in Akita, Sekiya Shiro moved to Tokyo in 1928 to study under the metal-hammering artist, Kawachi Muneaki. He became famous for his work in uchidashi (hammered up relief), as well as for assembling vessels from alternating strips of different metals. He was honored by the Japanese government as a Juyo Mukei Bunkazai Hojisha, commonly referred to as Ningen Kokuho or Living National Treasure.he exhibited widely and won many prizes for his work, among them the President's Prize of the Nihon Dento Kogeiten.
