Charles Labarre for Doulton Burslem A Hand-Painted and Gilded Porcelain Exhibition Vase, 1891-3 decorated to each central panel with cupids and classical figures; hand-painted by Labarre, this vase was produced for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, 1 May 1893 – 30 Oct 1893 18.3cm high, 41cm long, hand-painted artist's signature 'Ch LABARRE' to each panel, printed 'DOULTON BURSLEM' stamp, numbered 131.984 Footnotes: The Frenchman Charles Labarre was employed by Slater from 1891 to work at Burslem for around a year on special vases intended for the World's Columbian Exposition. Labarre was especially recognised for his paintings of cupids and classical figures in the Sevres style.
