* TWO SMALL QAJAR LACQUERED PAPIER-MÂCHÉ MIRROR CASE LIDS PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT PRIVATE EUROPEAN COLLECTOR Iran, mid to late 19th century Each lacquered, polychrome-painted and heightened in gold, comprising a rectangular panel with a Qajar lady playing the santur , wearing a long scarf and termeh hat, resting against a large oval cushion embroidered with floral motifs, the back plain black, 14.8cm x 11cm; and an octagonal panel, one side with a floral triumph with roses, narcissis, carnations and hyacinths, birds chirping amidst the foliage, the latter side with a couple conversing and drinking tea, each figure dressed in typical Qajar fashion, the male counterpart with a tall black astrakhan fur kaj kolah , the woman with termeh pantaloon, the maiden with a white shawl embroidered with rosette pattern, 13.3cm x 11cm.
