Edo period (1615-1868), 18th/19th century Rectangular with an overhanging lid, the exterior with sumiaka (red-lacquered cloth) ground, the cover and four sides decorated with shaped panels of black lacquer with maple leaves and chrysanthemum blossoms floating on a stream in gold hiramaki-e and nashiji, fitted with chrysanthemum boss cord rings 2 3/4 x 2 3/8 x 1 3/4in (7 x 6 x 4.5cm)
