A small and fine Satsuma vase Meiji era (1868-1912), circa 1900 The cylindrical vase tapering to the foot and decorated in polychrome enamels and gilt on a clear, crackled glaze with scalloped roundels of legendary beings including Yamauba and Kintoki, alternating with smaller roundels of landscapes, all above a continuous frieze of goldfish and a lower register of Chinese children holding swaths of fabric among chrysanthemum heads, the foot painted with a band of lappets below butterflies, the shoulder with geometric and floral designs and the neck painted with keyfrets, signed in gilt Ryuzan 5 1/4in (13.4cm) high
