A Huangtao style ewer with trumpet neck and loop handle, presumably imitating a Tang Dynasty original from the Huangtao kiln in Hunan Province, 20 cm high, post Qing Dynasty; together with a pair of millefleurs famille rose vases, about 9.5 cm high, both with Qianlong mark but not of the period; and two other vases, both with Qianlong marks but neither of the period (5)Provenance: From a Private English Collection, formed by the late J.C.Wright, Esq. during the years circa 1968 to circa 1985.Margaret Medley in 'Tang Pottery and Porcelain' ( Faber 1981) examines the Huang tradition in her chapter on the Northern High-Fired Wares of the Tang Dynasty, making the fascinating assertion that the ancestor of Chun was to be found in the mottled blue glazes of these slow cooling wares.
