European School, 16th Century Style, Possibly After Anthonis Mor (Spanish, 1519-1577) Portrait of Phillip II of Spain Unsigned, sitter identified in a Latin inscription across the top edge. Oil on panel, 20 x 15 3/4 in. (50.5 x 40.0 cm), unframed. Condition: Vertical split through the center of the panel stabilized horizontal slats on the reverse, surface losses, significant retouch, skinning, fine craquelure. Provenance: The estate of George Way. Estimate $200-400 Inscription across the top bears the date of 1556. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
