Dutch School, 17th Century Style Village Scene with Stream and Figures Playing Cards Outside a Tavern Unsigned. Oil on panel, 7 3/8 x 8 1/2 in. (18.5 x 21.5 cm), framed. Condition: Retouch, surface imperfections, varnish discoloration. N.B. An inscription incised in the back of the frame suggests that the work is a 19th century interpretation of this favorite 17th century theme. Provenance: The estate of George Way. Estimate $400-600 Framed dimensions are 12 3/4 x 13 1/2 x 4 1/4 in. Inscribed "Tavern Scene/Mrs. L.T. Savage" on a 19th or early 20th century label affixed to the reverse. Note on back of the frame says the work was restored by H.W. Jones on "9.1.61." Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
