Dutch School, 17th Century Allegory of Smell: Peasant Family in an Interior (Changing Diapers) Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 10 3/4 x 8 3/8 in. (27.4 x 21.2 cm), framed. Condition: Laid down on wood panel, minor retouch, probable skinning, old repairs, varnish discoloration. N.B. This painting relates to a series of works by Andries Both and Jan Both that illustrate the five senses. There is a similar composition now attributed to Bartholomeus Molenaer in the collection of Uppsala University in Sweden. Provenance: The estate of George Way. Estimate $200-400 Framed dimensions are 18 1/4 x 15 3/8 x 2 in. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
