The Gilt bronze potted in a shape of double gourd resemblance, with two bulbous bellies conjoined together, suspending a short cylindrical neck, bulbous lower section finishing into a slender bottleneck at the top, with a straight opening rim, raised on slightly short splayed foot base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in Gilt underglaze base color which contrast against the colorful semi-precious stones inlaid. The Exterior decorated with abundant flowers blooms and scrolling interlocking tendril, interspersed with bottle gourd, enclosed with double fine blue rings. Double-gourds are also one of the symbols of longevity or immortality. One of the main reasons for this is the fact that one of the Eight Daoist Immortals, Li Tieguai is usually depicted carrying a double- gourd in which he carried medicines. Indeed, there are many stories about double-gourds from which magical potions or creatures appeared, in addition to which gourds were believed to be able to absorb all evil vapors, safe-guarding those who carried them. The double gourd also represented a door through which certain people with miraculous powers could enter a parallel paradise. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. Mark on base, a four script -KaiShu- characters enclosed within square border, Made in The Years of Qianlong Reign Period. See More
