A CHINESE LONGQUAN CELADON GLAZED GROTTO, CHINA, MING DYNASTY OR LATER (1368 1644)
The Guanyin is modeled seated with hair in a high cowl, long robes, on a base supported with lotus and waves. The grotto is decorated with applied scrolling foliate decoration. She is accompanied by her two attendants. The grotto is covered overall in a olive glaze with the faces and hands left in biscuit.

Compare to a smaller piece (24.3 cm. high) with the grotto also decorated with a lotus in the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, Stockholm, accession no. OM-1992-0055 and further grottoes, including one from the collection of Evelyn Annenberg Hall sold at Christie's New York, 29 March 2006, lot 90; one sold at Christie's New York, 19-20 September 2013, lot 1285.
