John Swatsley (American, B. 1937) "White-tailed Tropical Bird Flying over Rainforest" Original Oil painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This artwork was originally published on the Fleetwood Mint Stamps of the World Collectors Panel for the Dominica Rain Forest stamp issue of January 15, 1989. The Tropicbird usually makes its home in crannies protected from sun and rain -- in cavities on coastal cliffs, under rocks or vegetation. Sometimes, though, it nests in colonies in trees. A solitary hunter, the Tropicbird most commonly forages for its food alone or with a single companion, catching small flying fish above the sea's surface or skimming the water and diving shallowly in pursuit of other kinds of marine life. Image Size: 20.25 x 16.25 in. Overall Size: 26.5 x 22 in. Unframed. (B11953) See More
