JACQUES CHARLES ALLAIS (PARIS 1705 - 1760) Portrait of a Lady in a Blue Coat, half lengh, three-quarter pastel on blue paper laid down on canvas 640 x 530 mm (25 x 20 3/4 in.) PROVENANCE: Sale, Pandolfini, Florence, 20th October 2010, lot 585, (ill.) Formerly recorded in the Dictionary of the Pastellists as J.9.6436 , noting [cf. Allais], Neil Jeffares has firmed up the attribution to Jacques Allais based on high resolution photographs. He will reassign the pastel to J.103.2182 in the next update of his Dictionary . We are grateful to Neil Jeffares for his help in cataloguing the present lot. Footnote: Correspondance wih Neil Jeffares: 'sold without attribution in Florence, Pandolfo, 21.x.2010, Lot 585, where from a tiny image I recorded it among the French anonymes as J.9.6436, noting [cf. Allais]: from your image I would confirm the attribution, and will reassign the J number to J.103.2182 at the next update'
