Six character Jiajing (1522-1566) mark enclosed in double ring to base and of the period. Dia. 23cm (9 in.) H. 13cm (5 in.) Note: See an identical bowl published in Mayuyama Junkichi, Mayuyama: Seventy Years (Tokyo: Mayuyama Ryusendo, 1976), vol. 1, cat. no. 858. Provenance: Sotheby's Hong Kong, November, 1996, Lot 752. Orientique, Hong Kong, 1997. Lots 1074 and 1075, together with other noteworthy lots in this catalogue, form part of an exceptional collection amassed by husband and wife Canadian professionals between 1994-2000 while living in Hong Kong, Japan and other locales and traveling in China, Japan and Taiwan. Some highlight pieces were acquired from Dr Patrick Wang, owner of Orientique (Hong Kong), a well-respected boutique specializing in Chinese antiques and works of art. The collectors had good eyes and studied Chinese pottery and porcelain assiduously and made some interesting authentic acquisitions for their collection that we are pleased to be able to present today.
