|Northern central India. 10th c.|Buff sandstone. Standing in elegant contrapposto between two columns. He wears a thin hip cloth and his legs, arms and head are adorned with strings of pearls. With his hands he holds a bowl of candy, a lotus and a weapon. His fourth hand, which was opened for blessing the people, is missing today and behind is leaning his ax. At his feet the rat is shown, which is regarded as his mount (vahana). Height 40.5 cm. Condition A/B.|Provenance:|-Private collection Brussels, since 1980s.|-Art Loss Register certificate no.
