刘知白（1915—2003）原名庭坦。号白云、如莲老人、老藤、野竹翁等。1915年11月生于安徽凤阳，2003年8月于贵州仙逝。1920年随外祖父学习书法、经史，1925年由《芥子园画谱》学习中国画。1933年考入苏州美专国画科，1935年拜顾彦平为师学习吴门画法，同时入住苏州怡园，潜心研习“过云楼”所藏历代名画，其间又随师拜访苏吴藏家，得览更多历代名家书画剧迹。耳濡目染，由此奠定坚实传统山水画学基础。
