提盒起源于食盒，初始多为竹子与较轻的木材制作，便于携带。至明代，提盒多用于盛放文房雅玩，因此所用材质也取名贵红木。本提盒黄花梨木所制，共三层，长方形底框内安站牙和罗锅提梁，所有立墙为圆角相接，装铜包角，工艺精致考究。
