Himalayan Art. A thangka depicting a guru of the Gelug-pa sect Tibet, 19th century . A small thangka depicting the riformer seated in padmasana on a single lotus base, his right hand is in vitarkamudra whilst his left holds the patra bowl. The two lotus flower sprays hold a vajra and a stylized stupa. The upper corners are painted with two characters: Buddha Sakyamuni and Amitabha. Provenance: Private collection Turin, Italy. Cm 23,50 x 33,50.
