By Yozan, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Boldly decorated in enamels and gilt with an almost identical design, the squat circular body with four elaborate overlapping panels enclosing a large number of karako (Chinese boys) surrounding a kakejiku (hanging scroll) at New Year and a pheasant beside flowering fuyo (rose mallow) at the water's edge, connected by two smaller panels of peonies on a ground depicting flocks of tanchozuru (red-headed cranes), the tall neck with a ho-o (phoenix) in flight among stylised foliate medallions and paulownia; signed just above the foot in gilt Dai Nippon Kyoto Yozan sei. Each vase 32cm (12½in) high. (2).
