Ca 1930's/40's. Twelve large black and white and sepia circus studio photos of the Hagenbeck Wallace Circus (1907-1938, Peru, Indiana). Photos are collage matted and framed under glass. Photosby circus photographer H. A. Atwell (Harry Alton Atwell 1879-1957) is renowned as the greatest visual chronicler of the circus in the American 20th century. The Hagenbeck Wallace Circus traveled across the US in the early 1900's. Itbecame the second-largest circus in America next to Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. Photos include image of elephants, horses, lions and tigers, llamas, acrobats and clowns. Included in the collection are two photos of Princess MyKaun of Burma, the "Giraffe Neck Woman". One photo with possibly American cultural anthropologist Ruth Benedict. Photos in good condition. Not examined out of the frames.
