Champa, 10th-12th century. The box of square form with a square pyramidshaped cover surmounted by a round stepped finial. Finely executed in repoussé with male deities under arches on the box and Nandi bulls on the cover, all surrounded by scrolling cloud designs, and set with multiple gemstones (spinel, amethyst, zircon, and almandine), one on each side of the box and four on the finial as well as a pierced gemstone bead at the top. Provenance: Ex-Collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Condition: Good condition with minor traces of age and wear, some small dents and minor bending, soil encrustations, and a fine malachite-green patina in some areas, particularly to the interior.
