此笔筒取黄花梨为材，器制规整，外壁打磨光润细腻，以百宝嵌技法，饰花鸟纹，所用材料有玛瑙、青金石、螺钿、青金石、绿松石等珍贵宝石。画面中假山坡石之上，梅花盛开，枝繁叶茂，枝杈高低错落间，两只喜鹊一上一下栖于枝头，工艺精绝，形象惟妙惟肖。梅花与牡丹相配，即显富贵，又合文士之雅，而喜鹊与梅花更有“喜上眉梢”之寓意，微妙而又具有意趣。整器工艺精妙，包浆润泽，构图舒朗，尤显富贵华美，可赏可玩，妙趣横生。
