ATTRIBUTED TO GIUSEPPE MARCHESI CALLED IL SANSONE (BOLOGNA 1699 - 1771) Saint Theresa visiting a prison pen and brown ink with brown wash on paper, squarred up in black chalk 194 x 152 mm (7 4/5 x 6 in.) The style of the present work is close in style to that of Aureliano Milani then Marcantonio Franceschini, both his teachers. The figures in Marchesi's drawings have a lilt and a sway, a rythmic interaction with each other and the setting unlike Milani. Comparable drawings are in the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh and in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
