A MASSIVE CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE CHARGER. Qing Dynasty, Guangxu period. Decorated with an enlarged central shou character heightened in gilt encircled by five bats banded by a gilt-edged ruyi head band, against a lime green band decorated by peaches borne on a leafy stem and set with eight equally spaced bat-encircled shou characters divided by red and green ribbed gilded wan, the rim with a double gilt-decorated band, a band of turquoise and a key scroll band above a row of pendant ruyi heads, Chuxiugong zhi mark to base in underglaze blue, ref in an email, box, 69cm diameter. (2) 清光緒 綠地粉彩繪福壽圖紋大盤,青花「儲秀宮製」篆書款 Chuxiugong, known in English as the Palace of Gathering Elegance, is one of the six Western palaces in the Forbidden City, and was the favoured residence of the Empress Dowager Cixi (1835 – 1908) between 1856 and 1885. The palace quarters were lavishly refurbished to coincide with Cixi’s 50th birthday. The ceramic wares made for the Chuxiugong were often large and monumental and bear Chuxiugong zhi marks inscribed in a bold archaic script.
