The original canvas has a very fine weave and has been lined onto a secondary canvas support. The canvas appears to be unsecured at the left hand side and the tension is poor. The adhesion between the canvases is poor and there are bulges and lumps across the surface. This uneven surface has led to losses in the paint layer. There are a couple of tears in the canvas. The paint layer is very vulnerable. The varnish layer is yellowed and uneven. The frame has scattered losses to the gilding.
