Dimensions: 4-1/8" H x 7-1/8" Dia. Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Red & Blue dragon porcelain lidded bowl. Potted with a shallow body, slight deep, thick and bulbous body, with angled cavetto elevated the steep sides upward flaring mouth rim, with reverse bowl dome lid finial bud, raised on a small round and slight concave footing. The exterior hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against red and blue fine color, depicted of snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a cobalt blue color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames and vapors. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. Mark on base, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, Made in The Years of Xuande Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
