C. 700-1100. Viking Age. Silver gilt amulet featuring a disc shape with an integral suspension loop. The central section depicts the god Odin gripping two ravens. The ravens probably represent Hugin and Munin (pronounced “HOO-gin” and “MOO-nin”; Old Norse Huginn and Muninn), two ravens in Norse mythology who are helping spirits of Odin, the god of knowledge, war and battle. Excellent condition; wearable. Size: L:21mm / W:20mm ; 2.4g; Provenance: Property of a North London professional; previously acquire on the UK/European art market before 2000.
