An Anglo-Indian brass-bound coromandel dressing case, 19th century the hinged cover enclosing inlaid specimen woods and ivory fitments arranged in two tiers, 40 x 54 x 17cm CONDITION: In consideration of its complexity this box in very good and complete condition. Box frame is solid coromandel; upper interior tray six covers are bone, not ivory; centre cover is tortoiseshell. Tray can be removed showing lower arrangement of enclosed and partitioned units, each cover a specimen exotic timber, many named, eg. tulip wood, lignum vitae, satinwood, Chinese cherry, etc. Bramah lock. One section of cast brass beading to cover reattached, approx. 3cm; outer timber surfaces could be revived but generally good colour. Please note that buyers outside of the UK may require a CITES certificate to export this lot.
