Winifred Margaret Knights, British 1899-1947- A sketchbook containing three drawings in pen and black ink and watercolour, c.1912-1914; one signed with monogram and dated 1914, two bearing signatures in pencil, together with a number of other sketches by amateur hands in the same sketchbook, approx. 18x13cm Provenance: Ethel Pickup; by bequest to the mother of the present owner. Note: Winifred Knights and Ethel Pickup were friends whilst attending James Allen Girl’s School, Dulwich, in the early 1900’s Sketch book covers with some creases on the reverse and fraying edges, loss to gilding on the embossed title, some marks overall. The first Winifred Knights sketch is on a separate sheet not stuck down overall but held with tape on the corners, there is browning and discolouration to the sheet overall and some further staining bottom right around the signature, there is some foxing to the sheet, it is signed with monogram and also fully signed. The second Knight sketch is done directly in the album and the sheet has some light grubby handling marks to edges but overall good original condition, it is signed with monogram and dated 1914. The third sketch by Knight is pen and ink and is done directly in the sketch book, it is in overall good orignal condition, some grubby handling marks to edges, signed with monogram and dated 1914 in pencil. There are a variety of other novice sketches presumably by other members of the school class within the sketch book, some stuck in on separate sheets and others done directly in the book, most are in overall good original condition, some signs of browning to sheet conducive with age.
