Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th century The globular vessel supported on tripod feet, worked on the surface in an ishime (stone texture) finish and decorated with floral roundels in openwork filigree, carved in low relief with highlights of enamel, or worked in silver and gilt wires and translucent colored enamels, the body applied with shachihoko (dragon-fish) handles, the neck embellished with a band of lappets containing floral garlands and the shoulder with a barbed collar of chrysanthemum scrolls, the cover with floral roundels and surmounted with a four-leaf finial surrounding a central chrysanthemum flower 4 1/4in (10.8cm) high
