A large Satsuma covered vase Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th century Decorated in polychrome enamels and gilt and modeled as a tea storage jar, the cover and shoulder molded with a draped floral brocade cloth and tasseled ties, the body painted with a variety of archaic Chinese vessels and the foot with a band of lappets containing chrysanthemum scrolls, with a lengthy inscription on the underside describing the virtues of this vase and signed and with impressed signature Kasuya and with the Shimazu Family mark 14 1/4in (36.2cm) high
