Joseon dynasty (1392-1897) or Modern Period, 18th/20th century Comprising 11 folding pages, gold, silver, and colors on darkened paper, bearing part of the text of the Daebanggwang Bulhwaeom Gyeong (Avatamsaka or Flower Garland Sutra), the first and last pages with floral decorations and architectural cartouches, the second and third pages with an illustration of a Buddhist triad seated before a temple and surrounded by numerous lesser deities; the carefully inscribed Chinese text inscribed in gold within a double gold border around each page, with extensive grid-like graphic interpolations in silver, the final page bearing a Chinese date Hongwu 22, equivalent to 1389 9 3/4 x 40 1/2in (24.7 x 103cm)
