PROVENANCE: From the Collections of Franklin Wood (1924-2019) Cartersville, GA. Franklin was born in a small farmhouse near White GA in 1924. After spending his early childhood on the family farm the family moved to the City of Cartersville where he attended school graduating in 1942. Franklin entered the Navy as a cadet aviator. On March 3, 1943, John was commissioned an Ensign and received his Wings of Gold, becoming one of the Navy's youngest naval aviators. In 1947, Franklin was retired from the Navy. He was a civilian flight instructor, supervisor and squadron commander in the Primary Training Squadron Flying Training Air Force. He met his wife Ying Su while she was attending flight training safety courses. Ying Su came from a prominent family in China. Her family blessed her marriage with numerous pieces of porcelains and Jade. The items in this sale are from her collection. Potted with a shallow body, slight deep, thick and bulbous body, with angled cavetto elevated the steep sides upward flaring mouth rim, raised on a small round with slight concave. The exterior reserved in characterized pacified blue-wish glaze. Adorned with pale green over glazed ring on outer rim and for base rim. The glaze structure being opalescent; the minute bubbles and phase separation of the glass as it cools gives an opal effect resulting in a purple appearance, with earthworm-track markings on the surface of the glaze. The immaculate glaze stopped before the foot rim, revealed the biscuit pale-creme body. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
