PROVENANCE: From the Collections of Franklin Wood (1924-2019) Cartersville, GA. Franklin was born in a small farmhouse near White GA in 1924. After spending his early childhood on the family farm the family moved to the City of Cartersville where he attended school graduating in 1942. Franklin entered the Navy as a cadet aviator. On March 3, 1943, John was commissioned an Ensign and received his Wings of Gold, becoming one of the Navy's youngest naval aviators. In 1947, Franklin was retired from the Navy. He was a civilian flight instructor, supervisor and squadron commander in the Primary Training Squadron Flying Training Air Force. He met his wife Ying Su while she was attending flight training safety courses. Ying Su came from a prominent family in China. Her family blessed her marriage with numerous pieces of porcelains and Jade. The items in this sale are from her collection. Dimensions (cm): Height: 11 Diameter: 10 Chinese Qing Dynasty Period Celadon glazed bell shaped porcelain mallet vase. The porcelain potted in bell shape vase, globular lower body, tapered gracefully toward straight tall cylindrical neck, with slight flaring mouth rim, raised on flat round foot base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in masterfully covered in an even coat of a soft blue glaze which terminates at the base to reveal the pure white under glaze. Meticulous finish sgraffito with big Fu dog through flaming vapor and scrolling ruyi. The blue glaze creates a mottled effect around the rim which is likened unto the blushing of human skin. The foot rim reveals the cut edges during the making process, and the receded central interior base left white under glaze. The glaze is seamless and gives off a beautiful luster, with the colors maintaining excellent vibrancy. Mark on base, a six under glazed blue seal script characters reign mark, Made In The Years of Qianlong Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
