花插以水晶雕成，质地通透，可见水晶特有的毛丝纹。主体琢成一颗石榴，周身浮雕枝叶装饰。花插口沿厚实，外撇敞式。配有木质底托。 水晶历史悠久，古有一系列的雅称：水玉、水精、水碧等，其“莹洁晶光，如水之精英”。以水晶为饰，也是古已有之，据《资活通鉴》记载，后晋高祖，天福二年“闽主作紫微宫，饰以水晶”。
